Telok Sebukang

Amateur divers can enjoy this diving site because of the calm current. It is located at the western fringe of Pulau Aur and has an average depth of 7.2 meters and maximum depth of 25 meters. Tourists can swim with little fishes together with Moray Eels and Cuttlefish as they swim and play along.

Telok Sebukang is a very pleasant place in which you can search for small turtles as they lurk in the island. Underwater adventure can also be enjoyed by the tourists as they can also relax on the island’s white, soft, sandy beach. Expect a great dive on this island on the month of March to November.

Telok Mariam

We’ll now go to the southwestern part of Pulau Aur as Telok Mariam meets us with its shallow dive site and is believed to be the home of the Ming Dynasty Wreck which lies 10 meters off-bay. There are times when the currents may be rough but it can also be a great time to spot huge Whale Sharks and Manta Rays.

However, if you are in a shallow water, there are no much evidence of marine life to be explored. Later days of February and early November can be a good time to dive.

Atlantis Bay

One of the most exclusive diving areas in Aur is the Atlantis Bay because of its features of coral reefs lining the rocky terrain of the island. With its maximum depth of 20 meters and 8.5 meters average depth, this diving site has much to explore.

It rests far away from the commercialized areas and located on a private beach along the long stretch of white sand. The clear visibility of the waters and peaceful tides makes it a great diving site for both amateurs and beginners.

Coral wildlife species such as Bumphead Parrotfish and Black Tip Reef Shark serves as their house reef in this place.

Crocodile Bay

Looking for beautiful sea turtles? The Crocodile Bay in Aur is a perfect dive site because the main attractions in here are turtles which are lurking around the area. It is located on the eastern side of the Aur which has a water visibility of 10 to 30 meters.

The 8 to 20-meter deep site is also a perfect place to spot myriad of thorn sea stars on a great coral colony while diving. You can also witness with your naked eye the very stunning sea stars.

Crocodile Bay is named after its rock formations that looks crocodile in shape. It is also a habitat of large barracudas that swims along the waters of the island.

Pulau Lang

Same as Pulau Pinang, Pulau Lang is also one of the famous diving sites in Aur. It is located on the northwest of the Aur in which it has a depth of 6 meters to 25 meters.

With its water visibility of 6 to 14 meters, the island also proudly presents its large variety of marine diversity with schools of fishes, beautiful corals, crinoids, and sponges. Divers won’t only enjoy the thrill but are also gratified because Pulau Lang has native marine species that they can find swimming along with them – Jacks, Batfish, Fusiliers, Napoleon Wrasse are just some.

Night dives are also popular in Pulau Lang, making divers spot fascinating marine life during lightless scenarios such as Turtles, Barracudas, Snappers, Cuttlefish, Barramundi Cod, and big Moray eels.

Pulau Pinang

Off the southern coast of Aur, Pulau Pinang or also known as the island of areca nut tree is a breeding ground for marine fishes and soft and hard corals. With its water visibility of 10 to 20 meters, it has been a trading island for a long time.

This diving site is also portrayed by a rocky wall that drops down around 50 meters deep. The visibility is affected by downpour and has an average of 10 meters to 20 meters maximum.

Common marine life that can be witnessed in this island include Batfish, Jacks, Trevally, Tunicates, Pharaoh Cuttlefish, Sea Whips, Wrasses, Bluefin Triggerfish, Foxface Rabbitfish, Fusiliers, Rainbow Wrasses, Whale Sharks, Eagle Rays, Manta Rays, Scorpionfish, Blue Spotted Stingrays, Squids, Sponges, Nudibranchs, Polichaetes and a lot more.

Rayner’s Rock

Resting off the northern coast of Dayang, Rayner’s Rock is considered as one of the largest diving sites in Aur. It is an isolated rock that reaches the surface up to 4 meters in height. Most divers considered this place as their favorite dive sites because of its popular pelagic encounter.

Common marine species are Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Jacks, Barracudas, Emperor Angelfish, Napoleons, Damselfish, Pufferfish, Batfish, Giant Clams, and Butterflyfish as well as mesmerizing soft and hard corals that surrounds marine lives. It has a visibility if 6 meters and a depth of up to 35 meters.

Diving in Aur

Located in an island in Mersing District, Johor, Malaysia, Aur Island or Pulau Aur in its native name offers a wide variety of dive sites. It is placed around 70 kilometers off the coast of Mersing in the southern part of Tioman Island and directly east part of the port town of Mersing, about 65 kilometers in the South China Sea. The five-kilometer long island is surrounded by the three islets Dayang, Lang, and Pinang.

The tropical island of Aur is greatly affected by the monsoon winds from the South China Sea and Straits of Malacca. From November to March of the year when east coast states have heavy rainfall, northeast monsoon blows from South China Sea. Southwest monsoon that blows from the Straits of Malacca also affects the west coast of Aur island during the month of May to September. Due to higher altitude, mountains have lower temperature that ranges from 16 to 24 °C.

Scuba divers can enjoy diving in Aur as it offers clear waters and exciting dive sites. With a visibility of 5 to 30 meters and depth of 5 to 50 meters, the island is perfect for your dive holidays.
